At the beginning of this series, I wrote about awareness being your connection to your higher self and to Source. Reflection and meditation are methods of gaining that awareness. They are tools for accessing what you experience with your 5 physical senses and what you experience in your subconscious. If you allow them to, they’ll lead you to the roots of both your distress - so you can better understand it and heal it - and to your joy.
These practices can lead you out of anxiety and discontent and into peace and fulfillment.
Using these practices when your life isn't hectic will help you reduce the level of your anxiety when you get stressed. They enable you to exert more control over your mind so you aren’t at the mercy of negative and repetitive thoughts so often.
If these practices are new to you, they may seem mysterious or difficult, requiring special or time-consuming techniques. That’s not true. Meditation has become popular in modern western culture and you can make it as simple or complex as you like. It’s even being taught to young children in school. Reflection is an informal practice that requires only your time and attention.
Reflection and meditation are the gateway to your inner self. This is where you align your head and your heart, because you need both in order to manifest the life you want to lead.
When you go within, you reach not only the essence of your own existence but also your connection to the greater consciousness. You uncover beliefs stored in your subconscious and learn how to communicate energetically.
There are many different ways of reaching the relaxed states where you practice meditation or reflection. I have a brief list of guided meditations of different lengths in my Free Resources section of this website.
If you're interested, you can also learn about the different levels of brain waves that are active at different levels of awareness.
Here's a quick guide:
Beta waves: our normal waking state
Alpha waves: we're calm but alert, brain is resting, this is the state of reflection
Theta waves: light sleep and meditation
Delta waves: dreamless sleep and deep meditation, healing and regeneration occur in this state
These practices can lead you out of anxiety and discontent and into peace and fulfillment.
